Otto Systems has been the leader in the distribution of material handling products for both general and entertainment industries located in Santa Fe Springs and Livermore, California. They needed to take their business to the next level and have a complete solution for integration of their existing business needs. They needed a fast and efficient way to offer prices all inclusive of shipping and handling charges. They also required a complete back end support system to modify their existing line of products online.
Challenges
Currently Otto Systems showcases its products on the website in a simple static page so that customers can view the available products. If any inquiry or the order has to be placed, the visitor is guided to a simple Contact Us form where in the required details can be submitted. The customer can also call the toll free numbers listed on the website.
Limitations
The current structure is a long process where in there is no direct means of showcasing the products along with their current prices. The order process is also lengthy as the customer submits a query and waits for the sales representative to get in touch with the customer.
Solution
Drait Consulting created a complete ecommerce solution to Otto System by creating an Otto System Store. The complete solution was designed using php, mysql and xml.
The payment gateway and checkout is handled by a third party – yourpay.com. Shipping is directly linked to UPS to eliminate any price guessing.
Accomplishments
The ecommerce package designed now allows a custom management login that has simplified the management of items to be showcased. The website manager can now add or modify the products with a single interface.
At the customer end, the customer can view the total price all inclusive of shipping and handling charges. This enables Otto Systems to showcase their products in more efficient manner. It also reduces the process of online ordering and helps them to secure immediate orders without their sales representative needing any follow ups.
